Since then, the now famous prince, jumped and climbed to rescue his princess in a wide variety of platforms. Prince was last seen in the game "Prince of Persia: Rival Swords" for Wii and PSP, and a movie from Disney is in the planning phase.
Now Mechner reveals in an interview with Gamasutra that the audience will also get to meet the prince in a new format. Mark Siegel, editor of First Second Books specializing in graphic novels, was a big fan of the first "Prince of Persia" games in the early nineties. He believed the Prince had potential as a comic character and made contact mbs with mechs.
- We found out that this was a unique chance mbs to do something special that you only get once in your life. Instead of doing an adaptation of the film or the story of some of the games, we would therefore either create a completely new, fully original "Prince of Persia" -history says Mercher to Gamasutra.
Mechner has been very involved in the former "Prince of Persia" -spillutgivelser and has recently spent a lot of time on the Ubisoft game development-offices in Montreal. He has no plans to stop following a hero on and will be involved in the book project, even if he is not going to take care of the writing:
- I'll guide author and illustrator. I found a really good writer who has a unique talent and helps with background knowledge of authentic Persian myths and poetry, says Mechner.
- Copywriters have been asked to take "Prince of Perci back to the mythical roots of the story, and I think fans of the game series will be very surprised when they see it. Hopefully the same result because it gives them something deeper and stranger than anything mbs they could expect from a comic novel based on a game, says Mechler to Gamasutra.
