Now, the new issue of Axess out there, and the theme is evolution. In Axess Stores website you can read some of the new issue's articles. From Genestetiken: "It is indeed astonishing with what force the theories of social and cultural un structures have become entrenched in our times. Not only in universities but also among the bourgeois and right-minded opinion leaders allegedly routinely diverse phenomena to be precisely structures: Gender, art, storytelling, insanity - you name it! ... According to the harsh interpretation is adopted, however the detection of a number of culture-specific performances prove that the phenomenon itself is not exist ... The liberals in social constructivism extension see a world where individuals can live in total freedom from tradition and biology ok, close your eyes, unfortunately for these theories downsides.
Not only are opposed social constructivism to new findings in medical, anthropological and biological research. The ideology which claims that man is a blank slate and it's destructive power structures during the last few centuries that have shaped our behaviors and beliefs, yes, that ideology holds in its extension shows that the conditions here and now can only get better by the people (by various government interventions) reformatted. un This is because it is only through the power structure, the influence that our behaviors and our beliefs is assumed to form. And the man believed to be a blank slate is of course possible to adapt to almost any circumstances: Labor and totalitarian states can not be said to swear against human nature, of human nature does not exist ...
My column in the new issue can be found in the magazine on page 58 (not available online). I criticize the film "Earth kind asta monkey" by documentary filmmaker and journalist Lasse Berg, which aired in Scandinavia un during the Darwin Year of 2009. Today is the launch of the Swedish schools with an accompanying teacher's guide. On forskning.se can under the heading "The film emphasizes the goodness of man" read the following:
"Darwin's idea of natural selection in which the fittest survive has long been the theory of human evolution that has been most accepted. But some scientists have a different view and that is what the film Earth kindest monkey is about. The film presents the thesis that it might not be competitive un and fight for survival as the style man, WITHOUT cooperation and solidarity. The author Lasse Berg agree with the researchers who believe that what makes humans unique is that we are by nature selfless and helpful. Research shows that it is NOT the strong pushed development forward, it's the smart one. Solidarity has always prevailed over aggression. "
So: it is not a competition and struggle un for survival as the style man, but cooperation and solidarity!? It is not the strong who pushed development forward. This is the "new synthesis" as Lasse Berg presents (by itself interpret various scholars he visited), and thus should be viewed as "a different view". Which it certainly is. I thought that Darwin's idea was that cooperation and solidarity has been an advantage un in the struggle for survival and cooperation within a group favored this group in competition with other (mutual solidarity and cooperative) groups - why would the competition and struggle for survival in fact be contrary to solidarity and cooperation? Do not Rock the concepts of family selection, reciprocal altruism ('ve blogged briefly about this here) and Hamilton's rule (matte formula) (about un hereditary altruistic behavior may occur)? This explains also between non-related groups - if that's where he wanted to go? Can not, moreover, cooperation and solidarity as a strength - or, Lasse Berg failed to turn up and properly translate the word "fit" from English? There is now no coincidence that this film will be launched in Swedish schools. The national curriculum, un which is replete with fine goal formulations for everyone to show respect and consideration, be good companions, show solidarity and cooperate well (such as not too long ago was implied and not even have to be formulated as explicit un goals) can now add the missing: that competition and struggle is unnatural and harmful, it does not make us humans and it occurs primarily at the expense of the other goals!
To teach solidarity solely on lessons in social sciences or getting into democracy, gender and diversity mainstreaming in physics education is not enough, because bullying and serious violence still increasing in Swedish school (how do you explain the way Berg it?), So the "new thesis "Now squeezed into biology classes where one of Berg's film and accompanying teacher's guide can teach students to be kind, solidarity and helpful. The thought occurs to me that there actually is not a natural un behavior to write, read or engage in mathematics -
