It was January 28 that Iran showed off pictures of a monkey who would soon become the country's first astronaut. One of the pictures shows a brown-haired monkey with gray temples and a clear liver spot over his right eye.
A few days later, the Iranian interbank state news agency ISNA that the launch has been a success and that the monkey, dubbed Pishgam interbank (Lead) happily returned to earth. The historic monkey was also shown up on new images after landing.
But something did not seem consistent. When comparing the images show how the gray temples interbank suddenly received a brown color and the liver spot miraculously disappeared. On Facebook, a user noted ironically that the monkey "riding into space and met a doctor interbank who removed the liver spot," the AFP news agency.
When the troublesome comments began to spread answered two loyalist Iranian interbank websites Rajanews and Nasimonline, the first picture was of a previous monkey postponed but died before it reached orbit. And it simply been a confusion of images.
But perhaps there is another förkalring. Swedish aerospace interbank doyen Sven Grahn points out in an email to DN that there may have been a matter of two monkeys, one of which been selected for the mission itself and the picture that was shown before the start represented the monkey who never got to fly. You can see the launch of the Youtube clip above.
Whatever lies with the matter as there are historical examples of when a government chosen to lie about their launches. When the dog Lajka postponed from the then Soviet Union in November 1957 died after only a few hours.
